• The Forever Young Activity Center in Quitman is having a baked potato fundraiser Friday. Delivery is available on orders of 10 or more, or by request. The deadline to order is this Thursday. To place your order, call 903-878-7043. The cost is $7.50 for a supersized baked potato with pulled pork, butter, cheese, sour cream and a cookie. Orders can also be delivered or picked up at the FYAC, at 404 S. Main street.

• Today brings the first of the series of diabetes classes being offered by the Wood County Extension Service in Quitman. The classes run through the month and are at 10 a.m. at the extension office on Main Street.

• Quitman High School will hold their Alumni Baseball game Saturday at 2 p.m. at the new softball field behind the high school.

• The children’s fishing event is Saturday at Wyatt Pond at the Mineola Nature Preserve from 9 a.m. to noon. Adults who are actively helping children fish are exempt from having a license but all other anglers are required to have a freshwater fishing license. Trout will be stocked in the pond and the event is sponsored by the city, Texas Parks &Wildlife and individual contributors.
