4-H awards banquet recognizes outstanding members

During National 4-H Week, the Wood County 4-H Awards Banquet took place on Oct. 8 to recognize outstanding 4-H members and supporters from across the county. The recipients had submitted applications and went through an interview prior to being selected for these awards. These annual awards are sponsored by People's Telephone and Brookshire's/Quitman. The members and their awards were as follows: Hannah Chaney - "I Dare You" Leadership Award Kendall Busby - Rising Star Award Rachel Hayes - 4-H Rookie Award Curtis Perkins - Bronze Star Award Ahneka Tullos - 4-H Junior Award Luke Kindle - Rising Star Award Dawson Chaney - 4-H Junior Award Zack Asbill - 4-H Gold Star Award Anna Carter - Rising Star Award Jhett Jackson - "I Dare You" Leadership Award Zachary Finch -- 4-H Gold Star Award Jake Kindle - Silver Star Award Tud Krier - "I Dare You" Leadership Award Wyatt Bashioum - Intermediate 4-H Award

The "Friend of 4-H" Award is an annual award voted on by members of the Wood County 4-H Council, and City National Bank of Quitman received the award.

4-H members also received participation and record book awards, which were sponsored by the 4-H Adult Leaders Association. Jake Kindle and Zack Asbill were recognized for their record books advancing to state competition, with Kindle's book placing third.

4-H members who won a Grand Champion, Reserve Champion or Showmanship award at the Wood County Jr. Livestock Show or a Grand or Reserve Champion award at a major livestock show received a jacket sponsored by Bubba Brumit of Brumit Farms. Driver, Jake Jackson, Curtis Perkins, Jake Kindle, Hannah Backer, Jentri Jackson, Jhett Jackson, Kendall Busby, Greyson Cox, Christine Long, Gracen Daniel, Happy Goodson, Hannah Chaney, Anna Carter and Caitlin Reed all received jackets.

The barbecue for the banquet was sponsored by City National Bank of Quitman and prepared by 4-H Leader Mike Roberts.
