• Mineola High School’s annual Homecoming bonfire will start at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the old band practice field on Patten Street. A community pep rally will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Meredith Stadium. The Homecoming parade will be at 3 p.m. Friday in downtown Mineola.

• City of Quitman Fall Clean-Up Days Oct. 26 and 27, 2018 from 8 am. to 5 p.m. at the city warehouse, located at the end of Cliff Street and West Side Drive. Clean-Up Days are for residents of the City of Quitman only. Bring water bill.

• The Iron Horse Cruise car show goes from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday in downtown Mineola.

• FUMC’s Fall Festival takes place from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday at the Pumpkin Patch at 319 N. Pacific St. in Mineola. The Pumpkin Patch is open daily through Oct. 31 for the purchase of pumpkins.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
