The Pilot Club of Quitman 2019 Chili Cook Off will be Friday, Jan. 25 at Caroll Green Civic Center in Quitman. Adult tickets cost $10 and children (ages 3 to 12) tickets cost $5.

Quitman High School will host its power lifting meet this Saturday, Jan. 26 at the high school gym. Weigh-in is from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Lifting begins at 8:30 a.m.

The Mineola Historical Museum will host their Taters & Trimmings on Friday, Jan. 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. $10 will get you a potato loaded with your choice of toppings, tea, and dessert. Call 903-569-6183. Please have your orders in by Jan. 22.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
