Breakfast with a Heart will be served from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 at St. Dunstan Episcopal Church in Mineola, 800 N. Johnson St.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast costs $7 for adults and $4 for children age 12 and younger. Breakfast with a Heart is sponsored by Bread of Life Ministry. Proceeds benefit Bread of Life’s food pantry.

On Thursday, Feb.7 at 1 p.m. the Friends of the Mineola Memorial Library will host author and veteran journalist Carolyn Curtis at their meeting. She will be talking about C. S. Lewis, author of the Screwtape Letters, Chronicles of Narnia and many other notable works.

East Texas Library Friends Book Club will meet on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Mineola Memorial Library. They will discuss the book A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron.

Wood County Arboretum and Botanical Gardens will host a hands-on workshop Feb. 13 from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. demonstrating correct pruning techniques for roses. Bring gloves and clippers for this event.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
