The monthly Bread of Life breakfast fundraiser will be from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. The breakfast will be held at Mineola First Assembly of God on U.S. Hwy. 69.

JK Business Services, located at 304 N. Main St. in Quitman, will host a ribbon-cutting on Friday, June 7 with door prizes and refreshments.

Faith Baptist Church in Quitman will host its Faith Outside the Walls End of School Year Block Party Friday, June 7, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the parking lot, 405 S. Hart. The party is free to attend. Food and drinks along with popcorn, lemonade and cotton candy will be served and door prizes will be awarded.

First United Methodist Church of Mineola will host an Alzheimer’s and Dementia Family Education Forum from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 at FUMC Ministries Center, 612 N. Newsom St. in Mineola. The forum will be presented by the Alzheimer’s Association Dallas & Northeast Texas Chapter. There is no cost for attending, and it is open to anyone living in Northeast Texas.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
