Friends of Lake Holbrook will host the 6th Annual Fish Fry, Bass, Horseshoe and Corn Hole Tournaments Saturday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at Golden Park and Boat Ramp on CR 2298.

America Legion Post 296 in Mineola will host a fish fry Saturday, Sept. 28 from 5:30-7 p.m. for an $8 donation followed by a live auction at 7 p.m. at 2015 E. Hwy. 80.

The fifth annual benefit golf tournament for the Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis Club is Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Links at Land’s End golf course on Lake Fork. Shotgun start is at 2 p.m.

The Alba-Golden Food Pantry Car show is Saturday, Sept. 28 in downtown Alba. Registration is 8-11 a.m. and prizes at 1:30. Food vendors, music and more.

The second annual Yantis Prairie Days is Saturday at the Northeast Texas Prairie Community classroom, 124 West Oak just northwest of the Yantis school grounds from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with a donation-based yoga session at 9 a.m. Other activities are hands-on educational and art projects, prairie walks and land management talks. Food and tickets for raffle prizes can be purchased.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
