• The Community Health fair will be held Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Forever Young Activity Center, 404 S. Main, Quitman. There will be blood pressure testing, Carotid Doppler Screening, scheduling of mammograms, flu shots, Glucose Level checks and many other things.

• The District 12-3A Cross Country Meet is set for the Mineola Nature Preserve this Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. The varsity girls will race at 8:30 a.m. followed by varsity boys at 9 a.m.; JV boys at 9:30 a.m.;JV girls 10 a.m.; Middle school girls 10:30 a.m. and middle school boys at 11 a.m.

• Homecoming activities will continue through Friday with the crowning of the 2018 Homecoming Queen and King prior to the Quitman vs. Grand Saline football game. The homecoming program begins at 7 p.m. at Bud Moody Stadium. Football game kick-off is at 7:30 p.m.

• Alba-Golden is celebrating Homecoming 2018 this Friday at their game against Winona.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
