A broken conductor, possibly weather-related, was found to be the cause of a large electrical outage in much of the area Wednesday.
Peter Main, a spokesperson with AEP-SWEPCO, reported that a conductor on a transmission line between Mineola and Grand Saline was found to be the cause.
An estimate of almost more than 6,000 residents, customers of SWEPCO and Wood County Electric Cooperative, were without electricity on what was one of the colder days of the season. The outage affected 2,756 Wood County Electric Cooperative and about 3,800 SWEPCO customers.
According to Wood County Electric Director of Communications Paige Eaton, at approximately 5:35 a.m., the SWEPCO transmission line caused the outage. WCEC cooperative customers in Grand Saline, Alba, Golden and those along the western portion of Lake Fork were without electricity.
The SWEPCO spokesperson noted electricity was restored by 2 p.m.
