Tips for Tots set for Monday

Posted

It’s the third time around for Tips for Tots Monday at A.J.’s Fish House Restaurant on Lake Fork from 4 to 8 p.m.

The annual event is presented by Wood County Child Welfare / Protection Board to raise much needed funds for foster children of Wood County.

The board uses all the monies raised in support of the county’s foster children. The organization believes the protection of the children is a responsibility of all the citizens in the county. Wood County is blessed with concerned and loving citizens who are dedicated to the health and well-being of children who have been abused and neglected.

There are currently over 100 Wood County children in supervised care. Many of these children are removed from homes where drug use or the manufacturing and sale of drugs is involved. A statement from the board reads, “The children supported by the board are in dire straits through no fault of their own. Foster care is a stressful and heart-wrenching time for them, and our goal is to be able to ease their burdens just a bit by providing both necessities and basic normalcy. With your helping hands we will be able to raise funds toward the $60,000 budget which is required annually to provide the necessary services.”

The board is a non-profit organization which protects, assists, and encourages the neglected foster children from newborns to age 18 who live in Wood County. Rainbow Room of Wood County helps supply foster children with clothes and supplies when taken into CPS care. Funds raised help supplement their care to provide monthly allowances, birthday and Christmas gifts and clothes for back-to-school. The funds also provide for things such as summer camp, senior rings and money for extra-curricular activities and medicines as needed.

Those in attendance will enjoy A.J.’s fish buffet served by 20 “celebrity” waiters including local ministers and Wood County civic and elected officials. Raffle tickets for a 55-inch Ultra HD television will be sold. A live auction at the event will have items including a Yeti cooler, stainless steel grill, a family package of three sets of golf clubs along with several gift card baskets. Baked goods donated by some of the best cooks in the county will be available for purchase.
