Two tornadoes ripped through areas of Wood and Franklin counties on May 29, causing extensive damage to several homes and chicken houses about four miles east of Winnsboro. No deaths or injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that an EF-2 tornado touched down east of Winnsboro and an EF-0 tornado, the weakest classification of twister, touched down near the FM 17 and FM 515 intersection, roughly five miles southwest of Yantis at 3:36 p.m. also on May 29.

Teams from the NWS, Red Cross and Wood County Emergency Management found damage between County Roads 4420 and 4430 east of Winnsboro consistent with an EF-2 tornado. An EF-2 can have winds of 111-135 mph and cause considerable damage. An EF-0 tornado packs winds of 65-85 mph and can cause light damage.

Damage to about 12 structures was reported east of Winnsboro. A single-wide mobile home was destroyed in the Winnsboro area and a double-wide sustained extensive damage near Alba. Widespread downed trees and power lines were reported from both storms.

The American Red Cross was assisting two families.

The EF-0 cyclone traveled 3.38 miles and over the west portion of Lake Fork as a waterspout, returning to land near FM 515.
