Tree removal project
Volunteers with the Texas Baptist Men, led by Wendell Romans, donated their skills last week to safely cut down an aging oak tree near the historic Stinson House at the Wood County Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. It took an entire day and close to a dozen people to remove the tree from its longtime location in front of the structure. The tree, which was largely hollow, had been on the decline for years, fueling fears it could one day fall on visitors or the 151-year-old house. Employees of the city of Quitman also helped in the tree’s removal. (Courtesy photo)
