Trees help beautify Lake Holbrook public areas

Posted

The public areas of the Lake Holbrook shoreline were further improved last Thursday with the planting of 30 trees between the public beach and the County Road 2260 causeway.

The Friends of Lake Holbrook organization worked together with the county to purchase the trees and muster support for the planting. A sizable donation had been received by the Friends of Lake Holbrook group which launched the latest beautification initiative.

Red oak and Mexican live oak trees will now fortify the heavily-used shoreline. They are neatly spaced between the bald cypress trees planted two years ago.

Commissioner Jerry Gaskill, Precinct 2, lent a hand with the planting.

Gaskill remarked, “This planting is part of the continuing cooperation between the Friends of Lake Holbrook and the commissioners office.”

Friends of Lake Holbrook president Greg Hollen shared that most of the work of the Friends of Lake Holbrook is not glamorous and has to do with cleanliness and facilities, but the group has made significant and continuous improvements to the lake.

He highlighted the two boat docks recently completed as an example of this incremental progress.

Friends of Lake Holbrook members Phil Payne, Janet Starr, and Bob and Susan Few were among those assisting at the planting.
