The previous week’s Wood County Sheriff’s department activities were as follows:

Aug. 16 – A man in the Quitman area reported criminal mischief on County Roard 1326. The victim said his brother-in-law had shot the tires out on his trailer.

A report of a reckless driver on Highway 37 in the Quitman area was made. The reporting party followed the reckless vehicle which the deputy located parked on SH 37. When the deputy spoke with the driver he noted slurred speech and glassy eyes. When asked, the man readily admitted he had too much to drink. Douglas Phillips, 64, Plano was arrested for public intoxication, and a wrecker picked up the vehicle.

Aug. 15 – Deputies were dispatched to CR 3147 in the Quitman area in response to a 911 call of an assault at that location. A woman claimed she was choked and slammed on the ground and against a wall. Deputies were unable to find any injuries on the woman. A man at the scene claimed the woman had been yelling at him and slapped and scratched him all over. He also said he was holding their child during the attack. The deputies concluded she was the aggressor and the man did want to pursue charges. Amanda Jo Marie Luster, 30, was arrested and taken to jail charged with assault causing bodily injury, family violence and interference with an emergency call.

A woman called to report her neighbor’s house had burned down on CR 4510. She also said she saw a pickup and trailer at the residence the day before and thought the tenant wasremoving their property. Deputy Melissa Pollard contacted the owner who said she had posted eviction papers on the house for back rent and had the locks changed. The tenant’s property was placed outside the house. The owner’s son said at 9 a.m. he was at the house and it had already been burned to the ground. The case was forwarded to the county fire marshal for investigation.

Aug. 14 – A resident on CR 3440 in the Hawkins area reported a window screen leaning against her house, a pry bar on the ground and a damaged back door. Though she said nothing was missing or moved, evidence was collected and sent to investigators.

A report of possible criminal mischief on CR 3879 was answered by Deputy Josh Davis. When he arrived he saw a large shop building with extensive damage. Several pieces of a motor vehicle were found, including a registration sticker. The deputy checked the sticker and contacted the owner of the vehicle on CR 3880. The owner first denied he had struck the shop building, but when confronted with the sticker admitted he had driven his pickup in to the building around 1 a.m. The truck’s owner’s insurance information was given to the victim. The case was forwarded to CID for review.

Aug. 13 – Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Private Road 5750 in the Yantis area on an assault. A woman reported she had been assaulted following an argument with a man she wanted to leave the residence. The man said he assaulted the woman who put her hands around his throat and hit him in the eye. Neither wanted to pursue charges and the case was closed.

A deputy responded to a 911 call from a juvenile on PR 5675 in the Alba area. A deputy found a woman sitting on the porch who said she and a man at the residence had argued. The deputy talked with the man who had taken a black zipper bag from the woman’s purse that caused the argument. The deputy found prescription pain pills, a pipe, and other drugs as well as drug paraphernalia inside. Kristie Williams, 39, Alba, was arrested and transported to jail charged with possession of a controlled substance, less than on gram, analogue.

A Yantis man reported a box truck which he parks on Highway 154 for advertising purposes had been vandalized.Deputy Steven Fields found that the windshield, side windows and headlights had been busted out. The deputy located bullet holes in the truck and photos of the damage was forwarded to CID for investigation.

Deputies Justin Bowring and Steven Fields were dispatched to the emergency room in Winnsboro in response to a report of a man with wounds apparently caused by a shotgun. The victim told the deputies a man infatuated with his girlfriend shot him. Following an investigation at the scene on Highway 11, and witness interviews, Kody Lane English, 21, Leesburg was arrested and taken to jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A second man, George Robert Foster, 51, Winnsboro was arrested after a routine check revealed an outstanding warrant for theft of property, $2,500 or more, but less than $30,000.

A woman on CR 1416 reported her neighbor sold her Ford tractor without her permission. Deputy Ragsdale spoke with the neighbor who said he told her he sold the tractor, and she seemed okay with it, to a man who had repaired it and then resold it. The case was forwarded to CID for investigation.

Aug. 12 – A Holly Lake Ranch woman said her information had been used to open an account which was showing up on her credit report as delinquent. She also said the account was opened in Irving where she had never lived.

An Alba woman said she had discovered an unauthorized withdrawal from her bank account of $432. An attempt to get information on the payee was unsuccessful.

Aug. 11 – Two men who share a storage unit located on SH 143 near Holiday Villages reported they had found several items missing from the unit. A window on the side door of the unit was busted out.

Lieutenant Robert Holland and Deputy Dustin Fenlaw were dispatched to a residence on FM 778 in response to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at the residence. A woman who was reported to be the victim of an assault denied anything had occurred. Several witnesses contradicted the woman and the officers were told that the suspect had inadvertently struck a small child during the incident. Michael Wayne Jarvis, 33, Quitman was arrested and transported to jail charged with assault by contact.

A man reported harassment on CR 4200 in the Winnsboro area. He said he was still receiving phone contact from his ex-girlfriend despite her being officially notified to cease contact.

Aug. 10 – In a report from CR 3270 in the Quitman, area a man said someone had been on his property on foot and stole several items. He also said other items may be missing.

A complainant on FM 852 in the Winnsboro area reported a burglary. The complainant said she arrived home and found several items missing. She also said the home was secure when she left and was still secure when she returned. One window was later found to have been tampered with.

A representative of Lake Fork Baptist Church in the Alba area reported a burglary of a vehicle. He said gas had been stolen from five of the church vans, resulting in over 100 gallons of missing gasoline. The deputy on scene found one item of evidence.
