Behind the shutout pitching of Brayden Stehman and the 11-hit offensive barrage by Mineola, the Yellowjackets posted an 18-0 trouncing of Alba-Golden Friday to stay a step behind district 12-3A leaders Edgewood.
Already ahead 8-0, Mineola bombed the Panthers with 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning to put the contest out of reach. Stehman struck out 10 batters in the run-shortened five inning game.
Stehman, Cameron Davis and Noah Sneed each had two hits to lead the Mineola attack. Davis had a four RBI night while Stehman and Jacob Ford each added three RBI. Stehman tossed the full five innings and had 15 first strike pitches in the contest. The Panthers did manage four hits in the contest, but nine errors hurt their defensive effort.
The ‘Jackets host Eustace Tuesday and travel to Quitman Good Friday for an 11 a.m. game this week.
