Incumbent city alderman Larry Crow has filed to be re-elected to his council post. Crow was born in Harris County in 1944 and attended public school in Houston and Pasadena graduating from South Houston High School in 1962. He attended Sam Houston State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He began his law enforcement career in 1966 with the La Marque Police Department and in 1972 he was promoted to sergeant.

Crow enrolled in graduate school at Sam Houston State University and graduated in 1975 with a Master of Arts degree in Law Enforcement. Crow was appointed Chief of Police in 1987 for the City of La Marque. From 1993-1997 he was a parttime instructor at College of the Mainland, Texas City, teaching law enforcement. He was appointed Captain with the Texas City Police Department serving as an instructor in their training academy.

In January 1998, Crow became a part-time instructor of law enforcement at Hitchcock High School and in June the same year, the Hitchcock Police Department assigned him to Hitchcock High School as a school resource officer. He graduated from the Graduate Management Institute, and the Bill Blackwell Law Enforcement Management Institute at Sam Houston State University. He remained at the Hitchcock Police Department until 2009.

He was elected to the La Marque City Council and remained on the council until 2009 and served as mayor of La Marque from 2002-2009.

“As a teenager, I would come to Quitman and spend the summer with my grandmother and aunt,” Crow said.

He married Theresa Ivy January 17, 2009 and they moved to Quitman two weeks later. He was employed as Civil Deputy with the wood County Sheriff’s Office and served in that capacity until December 31, 2012 when he retired a second time. He moved his membership as a Mason from the La Marque Lodge to Flora Lodge #119 Quitman.

He is a member of Forest Hill Baptist where his great-great grandparents WMDL and Sara Wood were charter members. He is a fourth generation member of the church. Crow joined Quitman Rotary in 2010 and served as president in 2012.

“I have been a citizen of Quitman since 2009 and served as alderman for two terms. It has been a humbling experience to serve the citizens of Quitman in that capacity. I am looking forward, with your help, to serving another term,” Crow said. “Quitman has advanced in a positive manner over the years and I would like to be a part of further advancements. The council has a vision as well as a mission to continue providing the quality service you deserved.”
