Yantis VFD celebrates 50th anniversary with fishing tourny
The Yantis Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating its 50th anniversary along with the annual Yantis Catfish Classic on Lake Fork.
On May 3 and 4, the tournament will take place at Oak Ridge Marina. There are individual and big fish competitions, with seven hourly payouts each day. There will be bonuses for ladies, youth, senior and the angler who catches the overall big fish. $20,000, in addition to more cash and prizes, will be awarded to the winners.
It will cost $70 for one day of fishing, and $100 for both days. Kids fish for free. The tournament will be broadcast live on KMOO, and you can visit for official rules and entry forms. Entry forms can also be obtained and paid in advance at Oak Ridge Marina, located off Highway 154, at D&J Tire in downtown Yantis, and the Crossroads store, located at the intersection of Highway
154 and FM 515.
After the tournament ends on May 3, the Yantis Catfish Parade at 5:30 p.m., with live music by Chris Bevill and the Spur on Band with a barbeque dinner at the Yantis school grounds.
The event is sponsored by City National Bank, Yantis Federal Credit Union, D&J Tire, Crossroads Store, Oak Ridge Marina, KFOP Outdoors and the City of Yantis.
