Memorial services for Wanda Jacquelyn Thompson, 89, of Holly Lake will be held Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Holly Lake Ranch with Father Mike Snider officiating. Mrs. Thompson passed away Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020, in Tyler.

She was born June 5, 1931 in Dayton, Tenn. to the late Alva Shorty and Lucille Blye Sutton. Wanda married Michael Paul Thompson on June 5, 1953 and was married to him for 61 years until his passing in September 2014. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and painting. She was a member of The Texas Society DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), John Hogg Sr. Chapter. Wanda was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and enjoyed serving in the rosary ministry. She entered nursing after graduating from Erlanger Nursing School class of 1952 and was a member of their nursing staff. Wanda placed great emphasis in her life on education. After she received her PhD, she was instrumental in laying the groundwork for the nurse practioner’s program in Texas. She taught at the University of Texas in Arlington and Northwestern State University of Louisiana.

She is survived by her sons, Mike Thompson and wife Kathleen Thompson of Gloucester, Va. and Bill Thompson of Lindale; daughter, Patricia Ann Martin and husband Stan Martin of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael P. Thompson; and a sister, Mary Alyce (Sutton) Fontaine.
