W.C. girls dominate district with post-season honors


The three Wood County schools in District 12-3A, Alba-Golden, Mineola and Quitman, fared well on this year’s post-season softball honor team.

The superlative choices were dominated by the district’s top two teams, Alba-Golden and Mineola. Alba-Golden senior Gracie Pendergrass capped off a stellar career filled with many honors being named the District Most Valuable Player. Other Lady Panthers receiving superlative honors were Pitcher of the Year Morgan Curts; Co-Utility Player of the Year Brianna Weissert and Designated Player of the Year Macie Pendergrass. Mineola had Offensive MVP Audrey Bush and Newcomer of the Year Izzy Tresca.

Alba-Golden’s Tiffani Mason and Mineola’s Rheagan Penn got into the act with the respective coaches being named Co-Coach of the Year.

Quitman landed two players on the All District First Team and they were outfielder Madalyn Spears and Utility Player Shelby Hayes. Other first team members were Sydnie Bell, pitcher, Mineola; Brianne McCalla, infield, Mineola; Lindsey Roberts,infield, Alba-Golden and Ashlyn Rogers, Alba-Golden.

Second team all district honors went to Hannah Ellis, pitcher, Alba-Golden; Makayla Mitchell, designated player, Quitman; Bralee Littlejohn, infield, Alba-Golden; and Shelby Wright, outfield, Alba-Golden; Kylie Banks, infield, Mineola; Hannah McKinney, infield, Mineola; Claudia Barriga, outfield, Mineola and Hannah Baucom, infield, Quitman.

Students named Honorable Mention were Gracie Bizzell, Alba-Golden; Eden Trent and Breanna Wilmoth, Mineola; Macy Wilson, Kendal Wiley, Shayla Smith, Brittany Walls, Kaci Raley, Hannah Hardy and Shelby Bettis, Quitman.
