Wood County Electric Cooperative’s 80th Annual Meeting will take place on Friday, Oct. 5 at Governor Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman.
Prior to the meeting, the public is invited to attend a concert by the fun and entertaining Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Bluegrass Band. The performance will begin at noon. Bands have been covering Beatles songs for decades, but none like Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Bluegrass Band. They take the music from the Fab Four and infuse it with bluegrass and jazz and top it off with a classical twist.
The business meeting for members will begin at 2 p.m. In a special presentation during the meeting, six local non-profits will be awarded grant checks from the board members of the Wood County Electric Charitable Foundation, which is funded by WCEC members through Operation Roundup.
Directly following the meeting, there will be door prize drawings for members. As always, there will be many great prizes donated by WCEC’s generous vendors, as well the grand prize of a large high definition flat screen TV.
Members should have received their mailed ballots for the directors’ election for WCEC Districts 1 and 4 via the dustcover of the Texas Co-op Power magazine. As a reminder, if you have not already done so, please detach and mail your postage paid ballot to arrive by the deadline of Oct. 4. Members who do will be entered into a random drawing where 10 will be selected to receive a $100 credit toward their electricity bill. Members should bring the other half of the card with them to the annual meeting. This card will be used for participation in door prize drawings.
