Mineola, Quitman split games

In their matchup last Monday in Mineola the Mineola Yellowjackets lost to the Quitman Bulldogs 2-1 in extra innings but came back to win in dominant fashion 21-0 on Friday afternoon in Quitman.

Last Monday, Quitman was able to earn a 1-0 lead in the first inning as both teams struggled to score or record any hits throughout the majority of the game.

Both Quitman and Mineola recorded just four hits apiece in the game. After Quitman took a 1-0 lead, the Jackets responded in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1.

In the following four innings neither team scored forcing extra innings where Quitman scored one run in the eighth inning and the Jackets couldn’t answer in the bottom of the eighth to win or extend the game.

 For Mineola their offense was led by Cody Ford who had two hits, and RBI and a walk. Cameron Wise and Jake Ford had Mineola’s remaining two hits in the game.

Cole Castleberry pitched 7 2/3 innings as he struck out eight Quitman batters while allowing four hits, two runs, and two walks.

 For Quitman their offense was led by Trey Berry who had a hit, an RBI and a walk. AJ Dunn also added a hit and an RBI.

Ben Burroughs pitched all eight innings for Quitman as he struck out two batters, gave up two walks, and four hits.

On Friday the Jackets were dominant from the second inning on. After scoring a run in the second inning the Jackets exploded scoring nine runs in the third and seven runs in the fourth inning and added four insurance runs in the fifth inning.

Dalton Rodgers, Bailey Mischnick and Ford led the Jackets’ offense as the trio combined for six hits. Jacob Dabbs and Ford led the Jackets with two RBI apiece and Connor Dobbs added three walks and another RBI.

Ford was on the mound on Friday as he pitched five innings and racked up nine strikeouts while throwing 12 first-pitch strikes as he gave up three hits.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday at home against Eustace. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.

The Jackets return to action Friday at home as they face Edgewood. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
