Wood County Sheriff’s Department activities for the past week included:

Nov. 8 – Deputy Aaron Warren was dispatched to Private Road 6304 in the Mineola area on a burglary report. The complainant stated he had arrived home to observe that someone had entered his residence through the front door. Several items were missing including a cell phone, laptop computer, a Netbook computer and approximately $50 worth of change. Warren noted minor damage to the front door where it had been forced open. Information regarding a suspect was recorded and a phone app was later used to locate the stolen cell phone. The app revealed the phone to be at the home of the suspect. Deputy Warren and Investigator Jacob Richardson went to the suspect’s home, called the number of the stolen phone and located the phone on the couch where the young man had been sitting along with the missing tablet. Harlie Levi Gill, 18, of Mineola was arrested and charged with forgery of a government/national instrument/money/security. Additional charges are pending.

Nov. 7 – Deputy Tucker George took a theft report from the owner of Kelly’s Korner gas station on Highway 69 near Golden. The complainant stated a woman had pumped almost $30 worth of gas while her boyfriend went inside the store. When the man was asked to pay for the gas, he stated his girlfriend was only supposed to pump $2 worth of gas and he would return later to pay for the remainder. The store owner advised he had waited a sufficient amount of time for the man to return and wanted to pursue theft charges. The case, along with the identity of the suspect, has been turned over to investigators for warrant review.

Nov. 6 – Deputy Josh Davis and Sergeant James Hildebrand were dispatched to Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins for an aggravated assault. The deputies spoke with the man, as well as a third party, who both stated the woman had attempted to stab the man with the metal hair pick. When questioned, the victim stated he did not want to pursue criminal charges. The case is closed.

Nov. 5 – Deputy Davis took a report from a Yantis man who stated he had received a collections letter in reference to a Dish Network account. The man reported that he has never had an account with Dish Network, contacted the company and learned his identifying information had been used to open an account for a residence in Dallas. An incident report was completed for documentation purposes.

Nov. 4 – Deputy Brandie Cunningham was dispatched to a residence on County Road 3235 on a theft report. A woman stated approximately 14 horse bridles with bits and reins were missing from a horse trailer on the property while her daughter’s tack had not been taken. She suspected her ex-husband may be responsible and later reported that the missing tack was at his house. The case has been forwarded to CID for warrant review.

Nov. 3 – A Winnsboro man reported his storage unit at the A-1 storage facility on Highway 37 had been broken into and several items were missing. The missing items include two saddles, miscellaneous bridles and straps and an antique vanity. The case has been turned over to CID for continued investigation.

Deputies Dustin Fenlaw and George were dispatched to CR 3832 in the Hawkins area on an assault report. A woman reported that she and her boyfriend were driving back from a friend’s house when he reached over and forced her car into park while she was driving down the road. She said he got out of the car and came around to her side, grabbed her by the arms and pulled her out of the car. The woman said he head butted her while she was on the ground and placed her forearm on her neck which prevented her from being able to breathe. He also kicked her car repeatedly. The woman was able to escape to a nearby family member’s house until deputies arrived. Walter Wayne Lehmann, 35, of Quitman was taken into custody following a prolonged struggle with deputies and charged with assault of public servant; interfere with emergency phone call; criminal mischief, $1,500 or more; resisting arrest, search or transport; and assault causing bodily injury, family/household member – impede breathing or circulation.

Deputy Melissa Pollard was dispatched to Village Circle in Yantis on a theft report. The complainant advised that several things were missing from her apartment including prescription narcotics, a knife collection, $200 cash and a spare key to her van. The woman provided information regarding a family member who had been staying with her. The case has been assigned to an investigator who will attempt to locate the suspect for questioning.

Deputy Donivan South took a theft of service report from a Dallas man who stated he owned a vacation rental property in the Mineola area and had rented it to a man for three days during October. Despite the renter’s claim that his family did not stay at the property due to being “spooked,” the owner of the property found that the beds had been used. In addition, he observed that some sort of bodily fluids were on the sheets and wrapped up in the blankets. The complainant assessed the renter a $50 cleaning fee, which the renter agreed to pay, and advised he has still not received payment and wanted to pursue charges. The case has been forwarded to CID for further disposition.

Nov. 2 – Deputy Warren took a theft report from CR 2632 in the Mineola area. A man reported that two long guns were missing from an unlocked shed where they had been left for cleaning. The guns are a Remington 12-gauge and a Browning 20-gauge with a manual choke. The complainant provided serial numbers for the guns so that they could be entered into the database. The case remains under investigation.

Deputies Steven Fields and Davis were dispatched to a residence on Farm-to-Market Road 1804 after a woman called to say that her adult daughter had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The deputies saw a man sitting on the front porch who ran inside once he observed the patrol units. Deputies were able to speak with the victim and noted she was bleeding from cuts on her forehead and lip. The woman stated the injuries were caused by the man’s fist. George Daniel Dobsch, 51, of Mineola was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily injury, family/household member, two or more times within a 12-month period. Bond was set at $100,000.
