Westberry hurls 2-hit shutout in win over Panthers; Lady Jackets bow to Grand Saline
Lady Jackets hurler Anna Westberry enjoyed another tremendous outing Tuesday, March 19 as she tossed a two-hit shutout and led Mineola to a 1-0 win over the visiting Alba-Golden Lady Panthers. A threat at the plate as well, Westberry knocked in the winning run for the second time in district play.
The game matched Westberry against Lady Panther ace Bralee Littlejohn. Both pitchers were consistently good throughout the game. Westberry threw a complete game and Littlejohn chucked six innings.
Mineola totaled seven base hits on the evening. The talented squads committed zero errors in the tightly played contest. Of note, Lady Jacket Claudia Barriga has emerged as an offensive power for the side and had another fine night at the plate, picking up two base hits.
The Lady Jackets were confident going into the Friday, March 29 game against the Grand Saline Indians. Despite producing 17 hits in the game, Mineola could not hold on to the lead and went down in defeat 6-5.
On the mound, Westberry spread eight hits over six innings. The Indians were down 5-2 going into the fifth inning, but they put up two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the win.
