Quitman Library Connections
The Friends of the Quitman Public Library will hold its Annual Fall Book Sale on September 24 - 25, 2015 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. If you have books, magazines, audiobooks, CDs or DVDs to donate for the sale, you can drop your items off on Wednesday, September 23 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., as the Friends will be setting up that day and allowing previews to the sale.
September is National Library Card Sign-up Month to remind people that one of the most important learning tools is a library card. Patron cards are available for those residents who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.

Enrollment is now open for GED® or General Educational Development preparatory classes. These classes are taught by Virginia Haney and are scheduled to begin in Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 4:30 - 6 p.m at the Quitman Public Library. Sign up at the library's front desk, or call Peggy Lustig in Jacksonville TX at 903-589-6900 for more information.
Free knitting and crochet instruction is offered each Thursday 2 - 4 p.m. in the library's main gallery. A recent study conducted out of Cardiff University in the United Kingdom found that people who knit for relaxation, stress relief and creativity reported higher cognitive functioning, improved social contact and communication with others. In short, knitting makes you happy. Students of all ages and skill levels are invited to join this fun group taught by Virginia Hoffpauir.
During September, there will be no Story Time. It will resume in October at its regularly scheduled time: Thursdays 2 - 3 p.m.
Mark your calendar for the next meeting of the Friends of the Library on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at noon. Special guest will be Brian Bowers who will present a mini-concert. This concert is sponsored by Ann and Jeff Norris. Check out his website at:
The FOL will hold a raffle this fall for a handquilted quilt finished by the Quitman Piecemakers, so please stop by the library to see this beautiful quilt and purchase your ticket to win.
