Mineola Middle School students go to UN

The Region 7 Middle School Model UN competition was held earlier this year in Kilgore. The Model UN program offers an opportunity for students to learn about diplomacy, decision making, and solving current world issues. In addition, students are interviewed for leadership roles within the competition and those who are chosen help by leading and overseeing a competition. Mineola was well-represented in the spring 2017 competition.

The following are students who participated and their countries along with those that received awards:

Eighth Grade: Japan - Sarah Arcand, Camila Ramos, Nathan Rojas, Jackson Anderson, Emily Phonsnasinh, Ramiro Mata ( Honorable Mention Security Council, 3rd Place Resolution Writing, 3rd Place Collage); Romania - Remington Coleman, Mateo Renaud, Karsyn Banks, Makayla Skinner, Tessa Fisher; Sri Lanka - Abby Kratzmeyer, Emmitt Brown, Jonah Fischer, Valerie Garcia, Riley Fowler ( First Place Audio Visual, 2nd Place Collage);

Seventh Grade: Egypt - Sofia Lopez, Kaylie Roberts, River O’Neal, Aubree Smith, Gavin Scarberry, Michelle Hernandez, Riley Donohoe; New Zealand - Marlee Sorrells, Cameron Butler, Kapri Riley, Valeria Veloz, Gabby Wolf, Jack Levi Heard, Emily Melvin (First Place Security Council, First Place Impromptu Resolution Writing, Second Place Map); Sweden - Alexis Villeda, Lauren Simmons, Coy Anderson, Dylan Riggs, Miniya Rodriguez;
