Winnsboro grad joining hall of fame
A standout Winnsboro High School basketball player is among the newest members of the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame, Class of 2026.
The members will be inducted during a banquet at the Doubletree By Hilton San Antonio Airport, Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the annual Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Clinic.
Sara Hinkley Watkins was a four-year starter at Winnsboro High School for Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame Coach Buddy Hawkins. She helped lead the Raiders to four consecutive trips to the state tournament. They were state finalists during her freshman year in 1997-98, before winning three state championships in 1998-99, 1999-2000 and 2000-01. She was selected all-district, all-region, all-state and all-state tournament for all four years that she was in high school. She was selected one of the Top 100 players in the history of the UIL in 2021. After leading Winnsboro to another 3A championship in 2001, she was named Miss Texas Basketball.
