The 50th Annual Mineola Hay Show included a record-setting auction and an official proclamation making it Mineola Hay Show Day.

The show which was held last Tuesday at the Mineola Civic Center raised $28,875, a new record. Previously, the most raised in an auction was $27,200 in 2004. It was noted in its 50-year history that the show has raised approximately a half million dollars to support agriculture science and education in Mineola. Much of that has gone to scholarships that have been awarded since 1986.

The evening included a diversion from the schedule as Mayor Rodney Watkins, a Mineola High School alumni and former member of the agriculture program, called his former teacher Glen Dossett to the stage. He then read the proclamation celebrating the longest-running event in Mineola.

This year’s show saw another product of the agriculture program, Dossett’s daughter, Kristi served as the master of ceremonies. Carlist Brinkley, also an agriculture alum, gave the opening prayer. Scholarship recipients were Sparkle Dennis, Mallori White and Regan Fischer, all of whom were away at college.

The top hay this year was grown by Jody Holmes and Mineola Packing Company placed the high bid of $2,100. Second place went to Dr. Lowell Main and City National Bank paid $1,700 for the hay. David Miller grew the third place sample and Mineola Community Bank won the bidding with $1,200.
