Quitman falls to Eustace

The Quitman Bulldogs dropped to 0-3 in district play and 5-10 on the season with a 12-4 loss to Eustace Friday evening in Quitman. The Bulldogs banged out seven hits, but four errors cost them in the contest. Jake Farmer started on the mound and took the loss.

After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first, the Bulldogs fought back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. A.J. Dunn got a hit to shallow left field and Jake Farmer beat out an infield hit to shortstop. Ty Moss added a single to right and the Bulldogs were down 3-2. Both teams added a run each in the third inning to make it 4-3 game with Eustace on top.

Eustace came back to add three runs in the top of the fourth to take a commanding 7-3 lead and never looking back. Eustace got another run in the fifth and four more in the top of the seventh while Quitman could only scratch out one more run making it a final tally of 12-4.

The loss dropped Quitman to 0-3 in district play and 5-10 on the year. Quitman will host Alba-Golden in a Wood County rivalry game Tuesday (after Monitor press time) with the JV squads taking the field 4:30 p.m. and the varsity first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.
