Stay at home ordered; fourth case confirmed
Wood County Judge Lucy Hebron signed an extended disaster declaration Wednesday morning, April 1 that includes a stay-at-home order, effective at midnight April 1. [pdf]
The Northeast Texas Health District confirmed two more cases of COVID-19 in Wood County on Sunday, April 5 that brought the total for Wood County to three. On Tuesday, April 7 Judge Hebron confirmed a fourth case in the county.
Wood County school districts announced Tuesday afternoon March 31 that they would not resume classes until Monday, May 4, extending the current break by four more weeks.
Superintendents in the county's six school districts sent out a joint letter that the extended break, scheduled to go through April 3, would last at least through Friday, May 1. The closure follows the order announced by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Tuesday closing all the state's public schools.
Meanwhile the county's emergency management coordinator, Tully Davidson, confirmed the county's first case of COVID-19 was being treated at the UT Health hospital in Quitman. The illness was contracted through community spread, according to a news release.
Gov. Abbott also extended the social distancing mandate through the end of April.
