Wood County set to honor veterans

Wood County will pause Friday for Veterans Day to salute those who have served the nation in the military services.

And on Saturday, the annual veterans parade in Mineola will step off at 11:11 a.m. from U.S. Hwy. 80 at Graham St. and proceed west through downtown, followed by a program at the downtown gazebo.

Area schools will each put on programs in honor of area veterans.

Mineola High School, Friday, Nov. 11, 9 a.m., high school gym.

Quitman High School, Friday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m., high school auditorium.

Yantis ISD, Friday, Nov. 11, 8 a.m. breakfast, 8:30 a.m. celebration.

Alba-Golden High School, Friday, Nov. 11, breakfast 8 a.m., program 8:50 a.m.

Stitchin’ Heaven in Quitman will host a Quilts of Valor presentation at its event center at 321 Richards St. (due to inclement weather) on the courthouse square Friday at 11:11 a.m. A luncheon will follow at 12:30 at Stitchin’ Heaven, and the event is full.

Kiwanis Clubs in Quitman and Mineola will be busy putting out American flags for the holiday.
