Regretfully, the information above is several weeks old: Wood County Sheriff Tom Castloo no longer sends his department’s timely report to the Wood County Monitor. Though elected officials are required by law to provide equal access to public records in a timely fashion, Castloo provides the report to the Monitor several days after furnishing it to other media outlets. To acquire the public records which the sheriff is required to release under open government laws, the Monitor sends a weekly Public Information Act request to Castloo that, the Texas Attorney General’s Office maintains, should be fulfilled “promptly, or as soon as possible without delay.” The records above were sent to the Monitor eight days after the documents were requested.
