Deputy Andrew Rapp was dispatched to the Quitman ER for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He made contact with the victim, who had visible marks of violence. He stated he was asleep on the couch and woke up when a man and woman came into the residence. The woman began hitting him with a wooden club. A case will be forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID).

Deputy Matthew Cooper was on routine patrol on Hwy. 154 when he observed a man running on the wrong side of the roadway. When he made contact with the man, he seemed paranoid, looking around as if he were afraid. The man admitted to having drug paraphernalia on him. Deputy Cole Hudson arrived. The man was placed in hand restraints and placed in the back of Deputy Cooper’s patrol vehicle. As deputies continued the investigation, they saw that the man had managed to get the handcuffs to the front of his body and exit the vehicle and was running down the road. They caught the man again. Deputy Andrew Morrison arrived and the man was placed in the back of his patrol vehicle. Cody Lee McGill, 24, of Quitman, was arrested for escape from custody.

Deputy Hudson was on routine patrol when he observed a vehicle make a traffic infraction. He conducted a traffic stop. The driver stated he did not have an ID and was asked to get out of the vehicle so his identification could be established. While emptying his pockets, a clear baggy fell out. He admitted that it was his and that it contained methamphetamines. Matthew Owen Robbins, 23, of Lindale was arrested for possession of a controlled substance penalty group (PG) 1, less than one gram. 

Deputy David Tipps responded to N. Main St. for a damaged ATM. He observed the ATM to have major damage to the front and concrete scattered across the parking lot. It was learned that a U-Haul truck had been stolen from a local business and was parked a little further down from the bank. The case is being investigated by CID.

Deputy Rapp took a theft report on Lake Holbrook. The party stated she invited a man into her residence to talk. When she got up to go to the bathroom, the man left. When she came out, she noticed her firearm missing. The victim was able to give a name of the suspect. The case will be further investigated.

Deputy Jonah Croney responded to Cimarron Trail for a suicidal juvenile. He spoke with the subject who agreed to go to the hospital for evaluation.

Deputy Morrison was advised of a welfare concern on PR 7536. The individual was not acting right and had left the location. The individual was located in medical crisis. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.

September 16

Deputy  Rapp was dispatched to CR 1913 for a theft of property report. The victim stated someone came onto his property and stole a headstall. The victim was able to provide a suspect. The case will be forwarded to CID.

Deputy Croney contacted an individual regarding theft of livestock on FM 1804. She saw an individual at her barn, but he was gone by the time she got out there. The neighbor advised her there had been people in her pasture before. A report will be forwarded to CID.

CID Captain Michael Chilson, Sgt. Jeremy Ragsdale and Sgt. Miles Tucker responded to an agency assist from the Texas Rangers. 

September 17

Deputy Hudson and Deputy Matthew Cooper went to CR 3250 for a burglary report. The victim stated she arrived home to find the front gate of their residence open. She said the second gate had been taken off its hinges. From there, an open window of the residence was visible. They looked through the residences. Numerous items were taken from the residences. The case will be forwarded to CID.

Deputy LaDawn McGee was dispatched to CR 1558 for a theft. The victim stated someone had taken a firearm from his vehicle. The gun was entered into the national data base as stolen.

Sgt. Heather Bailey took a theft report on CR 1600. The party stated he had several things stolen from a building site. He did wish to press charges and a report will be forwarded to CID for review.

September 18

Deputy Hudson was dispatched to FM 779 for a burglary. He met with the victim who arrived home and observed several items missing from his residence. The case will be forwarded to CID.

Deputy McGee responded to a disturbance on Hwy. 69. She made contact with the party who stated a man came to his residence and started banging on the door. After speaking with all parties involved, they were advised to contact their attorneys.

September 19

Deputy Hudson assisted with an inquest on SH 182. The justice of the peace and a funeral home were contacted and responded to the scene.

Deputy Linda Williams spoke with an individual who advised he was in a hospital in Houston when his vehicle was stolen. Inside the vehicle was a firearm. He informed Deputy Williams he believes his ex-wife has the firearm. The case will be forwarded to CID.

September 20

Deputy Hudson responded to CR 2502 for a theft in progress. The homeowner was not on scene but advised suspects were at the location attempting to steal two vehicles. The suspects left the scene and were later stopped by another agency. The case will be forwarded to CID.

Deputy Rapp was dispatched to the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office for a theft of property. The victim stated his brother stole money from his savings account and was stealing gas from his vehicles. The case will be forwarded to CID.

Deputy Amanda Dollison took a harassment report in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office. The reporting party stated her sister has been cussing her and threatening her. She wanted to know what kind of options she had in regard to this matter.

Deputy Rapp took a report of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle on Hwy. 80. The reporting party stated a vehicle was stolen from the parking lot. The case will be forwarded to CID.

Deputy Rapp went to CR 2140 for a theft of property. The victim advised he had a boat, motor and trailer stolen from his property. There were cameras that showed the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle. He did wish to pursue charges.

September 21

Deputy Jonah Croney was notified of an inquest on Hwy. 154.  The justice of the peace and funeral home were contacted and responded to the scene.

Deputy Morrison responded to FM 14 for a disturbance. The party stated she was in an altercation with her grandson. The suspect made numerous threats toward the party and her son, leaving the location after the sheriff’s office had been contacted. A report for terroristic threat was taken and forwarded to CID for further review.

Deputy John Cooper took a report by phone regarding a theft on FM 17 over the weekend. The victim stated he noticed the property missing, but did not have all the information needed to file a report at that time. The report was completed and will be forwarded for further investigation.

Sgt. Jeremy Smith took a terroristic threat report in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office. The party stated her daughter is being threatened and bullied over social media. A report was made for further reference.
