First Assembly to host Irish missionaries
The First Assembly of God in Mineola will host Gary and Wilma Davidson Sept. 10-11.
The Davidsons have been serving in Ireland for over 36 years and are involved in church starting new churches and leadership training. In the early 1980s they ministered to thousands of Irish people through evangelism and church planting. They saw scores change their lives. People who had been involved in terrorism and the drug culture had life changing encounters as they became Christians.
In 1986 the Davidsons established St. Mark’s Church, transforming a formerly vacant church building, which is over 260 years old, into a vibrant center of ministry.
The Women’s Ministry of First Assembly will have a luncheon at which Wilma will speak on Saturday at 11 am. Gary will share experiences during the morning service on Sunday at 10:45 a.m.
St. Mark’s Church has grown into the largest evangelical/Pentecostal congregation in the Republic of Ireland. This congregation of over 700 attendees has assisted in the planting of seven congregations. An indigenous Teen Challenge ministry was also established enabling many men and women to be set free from substance abuse and drug addiction. Teen Challenge now operates a Women’s and Men’s Residential center with over 50 individuals being ministered too.
In 2004, Gary handed on the leadership of St. Mark’s Church to a national pastor and assumed the role of national leader (general superintendent) of the newly formed Assemblies of God Ireland (AGI). In the following years the AGI has grown in numerical strength and influence in the nation. On January 14, 2012, Gary passed on the leadership to an Irish pastor. Today the AGI is an indigenous organization with over 30 congregations reaching into their local communities. Gary and Wilma continue to be involved in the nation of Ireland. Gary teaches in SALT (School of Advanced Leadership Training), mentors leaders and missionaries and assists in facilitating construction and evangelistic teams.
The Davidsons have four children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
