Yantis boys take down Fannindel


The Yantis Owls continued their winning ways last Tuesday night thrashing Fannindel 74-41 moving to 16-2 on the year.

The Owls came out firing with J.C. Nolen popping in a three-point shot just 20 seconds into the game. Will Graham put in a 12 foot jumper and Jayden Madrall hit a trey and a field goal to give Yantis an early 10-2 lead. Graham hit two more buckets and Modrall added a thundering dunk to give the Owls a 16-5 cushion just two minutes to go in the first quarter. Dallas Scott ended the period with another Owl triple to give the home team a 19-10 lead.

The second quarter belonged to Modrall as he posted 17 of the Owls’ 23 points to give Yantis a 42-25 lead. Point guard Bradley Potts controlled the tempo of the game with his steady navigation of the Owls’ offense and numerous assists leading to scores.

The Owls put the game away in the third quarter with a 23-12 run giving them a 65-37 advantage. In a three-minute span in the middle of the third quarter the Owls hit five consecutive three-point shots on two from Modrall and one each by Potts, Nolen and Scott.

Head Coach Mike McMinn rested most of the starters in the final quarter as the Owls scored nine points while playing solid defense holding Fannindel to just four points.

Modrall ended the contest with 34 points followed by Scott with 14, Graham 10, Nolen six, Potts five and Josh Moreland two.

The Owls were at home Tuesday (after Monitor presstime) hosting Christian Home Educators before the holiday break.
