Panthers come from behind to beat Quitman
The Alba-Golden Panthers fell behind Quitman 5-1 but had a huge sixth inning, going ahead 9-5 and then holding off the Bulldogs, finishing with an exciting 9-8 district win Friday at home.
The Panthers’ win avenges an earlier 4-1 loss to Quitman in the first round of district action.
Daniel Wiley started on the mound for Alba-Golden and went 4 1/3 innings, giving up 1 earned run, having five strikeouts and three walks. Mason Silcox got the win, coming in and closing it out throwing 2 2/3 innings, giving up three earned runs, striking out three and walking one. Among the Panthers, Dawson Kirk went 3 for 4 and scored one run. David Pennington went 1 for 3, had one rbi and two runs. Nick Murray went 1 for 3 and had two rbis.
Earlier in the week, Quitman fell to Eustace on the road 10-0. Their district record now stands at 1-8 while the season slate is 6-13. Tuesday night’s game (after Monitor press time) at home against Edgewood was scheduled to be Senior Night for the Bulldogs.
