Yantis man dies attempting to fight fire
A longtime Yantis resident passed away April 9. His body was recovered from a fire.
Yantis Fire Department was on the scene to put out a forest fire when the body was discovered. The body was found at 482 CR 1858 in Wood County at 3:26 p.m.
Nathaniel “Nate” Batchelor, 73, is believed to have tripped over a log while trying to put out the fire on his property, was unable to get up and perished in the fire.
Batchelor was raised on a large dairy farm where he learned about cows, milking and caring for cattle. He went to Como School where he graduated in 1967 and had lived in the Yantis area for many years.
