Mineola ISD hosts Tri-County College Fair for Accelerate Texas Week
In participation with Accelerate Texas Week for college recruitment, Mineola High School will host the annual college fair for students on today. Mineola is coordinating this event for students from nine local area high schools in three counties, including the surrounding districts of Van, Grand Saline, Quitman, Yantis, Hawkins, Alba-Golden and Fruitvale.
Over 60 college recruiters from across Texas and other states like Louisiana and Arkansas will be in attendance to share majors, careers, and admission information with students. The event will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 11 p.m.at Mineola High School, 900 W. Patten, Mineola.
The Texas Higher Education Board has launched a major initiative, 60X30TX, with a goal that by 2030, at least 60 percent of Texans ages 25-34 will have a certificate or degree. Work towards this goal will position Texas to be among the highest achieving states in the country and empower a global presence. Offering a day for students to investigate potential post-secondary options is one step towards achieving this goal.
“We recognize the need for our students to be college and career ready and want to provide the opportunity for our sophomore, junior, and senior students to meet and visit with potential colleges, universities, technical schools, and military academies to plan for their future,” stated superintendent, Kim Tunnell. “This 60X30 goal has an economic factor for our State to remain globally competitive and we want our students to graduate with marketable skills prepared to lead our workforce.”
Mineola ISD is scheduled to host a career fair on February 10, 2017 for middle and high school students in conjunction with the Mineola Foundation, Inc. to showcase local and regional business and workforce needs.
