Yellowjackets down Panthers, fall to Grand Saline 10-3
The Mineola Yellowjackets tallied their second district win of the year with a 9-4 victory over the visiting Alba-Golden Panthers on Tuesday March 19. Cole Castleberry tossed five innings and was spelled by Dalton Rogers, who closed out the win.
Alba-Golden put up three runs in the first, but was was held scoreless until chalking up a run in the sixth. Offensively, Mineola was led by Castleberry and Bryce Strange, who recorded two hits on the night.
The Yellowjackets looked to build on this momentum when they went to Grand Saline on Friday, March 22 to take on the Indians. Mineola’s River Simonek was paired against Grand Saline’s Phillip LaPrade. Each pitcher threw five innings before giving up pitching duties to Jacob Dabbs and Bryce Smith, respectively.
Mineola mustered only two hits on the night, while Grand Saline racked up a dozen. The Indians prolific offense recorded seven runs in the first three innings and added three more in the fifth. Mineola went down in defeat 10-3.
The Yellowjackets sit at 2-2 in district play.
