After having a bye last Friday, the Mineola Yellowjackets are ready to host state-ranked Gladewater Friday at Meredith Memorial Stadium. The Bears are coming off a big game against district rival West Rusk while Mineola fell in their district opener to the Raiders 42-21 two weeks ago. The Raiders, along with Gladewater, have consistently been in the Class 3A Top Ten state rankings. Mineola comes into the contest with a 3-1 record.
The Yellowjackets have been led on offense by senior quarterback Shaw Franklin and sophomore running back Trevion Sneed. Franklin has shown leadership on the field rushing for 539 yards on 51 carries, which averages to 10.6 yards per carry. Franklin has added 17 completions in 40 attempts for 351 yards. He has tossed three passes for touchdowns and has just two interceptions. Franklin has run for seven touchdowns.
For the year, the ‘Jackets have run for 1,356 yards on 145 carries for an average rush of 9.4 yards per carry and have already scored 15 touchdowns on the ground.
Sneed has totaled 660 yards on 70 carries for an average of 9.4 yards per carry and has scored six touchdowns. Sneed is also a leader on defense at his linebacker spot. He has 33 tackles averaging just over eight per game and leads the team with three sacks.
Dalton Rogers is the ‘Jackets leads the defense with 44 tackles for an average of 11 per game. Hunter Wright follows with 43 tackles which is an average of over 10 stops per game. Kobe Kendrick averages 10 tackles per game with 40 total in four games. Cole Castleberry leads the secondary with five pass break-ups for the year.
