Lady Jackets open season with win
The Mineola Lady Jackets (1-0) opened the season with an exciting victory last Tuesday against the Lone Oak Lady Buffalos (2-3) by a score of 69-63.
The Lady Jackets led 21-18 at the end of the first period and 37-31 at halftime but Lone Oak stayed within reach of Mineola throughout the second half.
The Lady Buffalos cut it to 52-48 at the end of the third period and were looking to escape with a win over the Lady Jackets. Lone Oak cut the lead to one point with two minutes to play but the Lady Jackets were able to pull away for the hard-fought victory.
Sabria Dean led the Lady Jackets with 19 points. Jessiah Riley finished with 17 points and Lauren Almuete had 12 points to round out the Lady Jackets’ double-figure scorers. Taylor Griffin had nine points, Bri McCalla had seven points and Vanessa Spuregon had two points.
The Lady Jackets travel to North Lamar Monday and Big Sandy Tuesday, after Monitor press time.
