Yellowjackets stumble to begin new season

The Mineola Yellowjackets opened the 2025 high school football season with a 42-13 loss at DeKalb Friday night.

The Bears rolled up 28 points by halftime and all 42 points in three periods, while the Yellowjackets managed a touchdown in each half.

Mineola put up 314 yards of offense with 135 through the air on 9-14 passes and 179 on the ground.

Kipton Neighbors accounted for 84 yards on the ground on 12 carries and also threw for one touchdown.

Braelyn Geremonte ran for 55 yards on 11 caries.

Three fumbles and an interception slowed the Mineola effort.

DeKalb used six receivers and five runners to amass 390 yards of offense, with 222 coming through the air on 20-26 passes.

Next up for the Jackets is another road game at Scurry-Rosser, which lost its opener to Italy 31-28.

Kickoff is Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
