Yellowjackets swept 2-0 in playoff series


The Mineola baseball team’s season ended Saturday after getting swept by Gunter in the area round of the playoffs.

On Saturday Mineola lost 10-5 in the 14th inning.

The Yellowjackets had a 5-4 lead going into the top of the seventh inning but a runner advanced on a wild pitch by Noah Sneed and scored on a sacrifice fly.

Gunter tacked on five runs in the 14th inning to put the game out of reach for the Yellowjackets. 

Frankie Meason led the way for Mineola going three-for-six with two RBI, a walk and a strikeout.

Brayden Stehman also had two RBIs, a run scored and a strikeout after going one-for-five at the plate.

On Friday night Mineola lost 6-5 on the final play of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Gunter’s Matt Hunter hit a line drive to right field off of Aaron “Bubba” Stanford driving in the game-winning run for the  Tigers.

Mineola trailed 5-1 after the fifth inning but scored four runs in the sixth inning to tie the game.

Cameron Davis singled on a line drive to center to start off the comeback for the Yellowjackets. Carty Heim walked, D.J. Hartley and Meason were hit by a pitch to load the bases bringing Stanford to the plate. Stanford also walked, scoring a run. 

Sneed’s only hit of the game was a double on a line drive to center to tie the game.

Meason went one-for-four with two RBIs and a run scored.

The Yellowjackets ended their season with a 19-10 record.
