Yantis student wins at calf scramble
Lilian Forward of the Yantis FFA caught a calf during the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Calf Scramble Jan. 19, earning a $500 purchase certificate for a show heifer and the chance for up to $16,000 in scholarship awards.

Kiwanis plan chili cookoff
The 13th annual Mineola Kiwanis Chili Cook off is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mineola Civic Center.

Funds target innovative Quitman memory care center
The Wood County Economic Development Commission (WCEDC) unanimously approved $50,000 last Wednesday in support of Phase One of an innovative memory care concept project in Quitman.
The Wood County Central Hospital District matched that grant with $50,000, and the Quitman Economic Development Corporation committed $25,000 which was approved by the Quitman City Council last Thursday. more

Quitman Pilot Club plans annual benefit chili cook-off
The Quitman Pilot Club’s Chili Cook-Off will be Friday, Jan. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carroll Green Civic Center in Quitman. Well-known for a fun time in support of a good cause, there’s always some tasty chili served with lots of laughs at festive booths.
