Commissioners take care of annual items

Visiting Judge Alphonso Charles ruled against a request from former 402nd District Judge Jeff Fletcher to have current Judge Brad McCampbell recused from district court cases involving Fletcher’s clients. The two were involved in a tense, and at times bitter, campaign for district judge in 2020. more

Record hay show auction tops $40K

The Mineola Hay Show has come a long way.

When the bids and add-ons were tabulated last Tuesday night, the show generated more than $40,000 to assist the Mineola High School ag programs. more

Quitman council adopts budget, tax rate

The Quitman City Council approved a tax rate of $0.5411 per $100 valuation last Thursday. The rate consists of maintenance and operations at $0.3900 and interest and sinking of $0.1511 to bring the total to the $0.5411.

The council opened the session with a public hearing to discuss the tax rate, but no citizens were present, and Mayor Randy Dunn ended the hearing. The adoption of the tax rate was approved unanimously. more
