New Quitman city budget raises police pay
The Quitman City Council approved a $3.9 million budget for 2023-24 last Thursday. It will be supported by a property tax rate of $.5257 per $100 value as well as an 8% increase in water rates.

Bassmasters tournament returns to Wood County
Wood County commissioners approved the Bassmaster host agreement with the Wood County Economic Development Commission last Tuesday. The event returns to Lake Fork at the new facilities of the Sabine River Authority headquarters in late February 2024.

Wood County Judge Kevin White lifted the outdoor burning ban Tuesday afternoon.
The order, effective Sept. 26, says the Texas Forest Service finds drought conditions have subsided and the County Judge and Fire Marshal agree, so burning may resume. more
