Mineola Class of 22 marches into history
Following words of wisdom from their principal, Mike Sorenson, and their top two graduates, Sunni Ruffin and Jack Heard, the Mineola High School Class of 2022 added 112 names to the list of Yellowjacket alumni in a ceremony Friday at the high school gym, with the basketball scoreboard clock frozen at 20:22.

Program’s first grads recognized in special ceremony
Participants in the first Mineola after-school skateboarding program earned their wings last Tuesday in the form of skateboards and safety equipment in a formal graduation ceremony at the middle school.

Proud Blue Band earns first sweepstakes in 30 years
The Quitman Proud Blue Band secured its first sweepstakes distinction in 30 years March 29 in Gilmer at the UIL concert and sight-reading competition.

MISD board sets meeting to call bond election
Mineola School Board will consider calling a $29.9 million bond election at a special meeting Thursday at 6 p.m.
The board held a public forum Monday to go over the bond’s particulars, which was also live-streamed.
The highlight of the proposal is a new primary school on E. Loop 564 that would house Head Start through third grade. more

MISD construction costs detailed
Mineola school trustees reviewed estimated costs for a laundry list of potential school improvement projects Monday.
Bryan Parma, vice president of pre-construction for Jackson Construction, said the bulk of the $30.2 million proposal, $19.5 million, would be for a new primary school to be built on district property on NE Loop 564. more

The Sound of the Swarm celebrates

Mineola wins as five county teams place at state FFA meet
The Mineola FFA ag advocacy team has won the state championship, held Saturday at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.
The team of Sunni Ruffin, Ava Johnson (seniors) and Mylee Fischer (junior) earned a large state banner that will hang in the high school when it arrives, along with their photo. more
