Members took part in a judged interview in which they presented a prepared food and answered questions about the nutritional qualities of that dish, preparation steps, MyPlate dietary guidelines, possible food substitutions and food safety factors related to that food.

4-H’ers compete in food show
The annual Wood County 4-H Food Show was held recently with members exhibiting skills in the food/nutrition project.
Members took part in a judged interview in which they presented a prepared food and answered questions about the nutritional qualities of that dish, preparation steps, MyPlate dietary guidelines, possible food substitutions and food safety factors related to that food.
Category winners will advance to the spring District 4-H Food Show to compete with 4-H’ers from across the 22-county Northeast TX District 5.
Awards were presented as follows:
Junior Main Dish: 1st Place, Addy Bolt; 2nd Place, Brianna Partridge
Junior Side Dish: 1st Place, Sami Jo Perkins
Junior Healthy Dessert: 1st Place, Luke Yeager; 2nd Place, Lucas DeGorostiza
Intermediate Side Dish: 1st Place, Ada VanSingel; 2nd Place, Robert Schuttler
Senior Main Dish: 1st Place, Helena Bautista-Mathias
Senior Appetizer: 1st Place, Alivia Thompson
Senior Side Dish: 1st Place, Katie Degorostiza
Senior Healthy Dessert: 1st Place, Kendall Davis
Clover Kids: Blue Ribbons, Brooks Haynes, Gage Henk, Emma Schuttler, Jake Yeager
Prior to the food show, during food project workshops, members had the opportunity to enter a coloring contest featuring the “MyPlate” Dietary Guide for their age group. Those winners were as follows:
Junior: Sami Jo Perkins, Intermediate: Ada VanSingel, Senior: Helena Bautista-Mathias and Clover Kids: Emma Schuttler and Leya Neckar (tie).
