A-G ladies blast Saltillo in 3 innings

Posted

The Alba-Golden Lady Panthers took a little batting practice last Tuesday, courtesy of the visiting Saltillo Lady Lions. The Lady Panthers delivered five extra-base hits with two round-trippers – an Alexis Wilmut grand slam and 3-run shot by Cacie Lennon.

The Lady Lions came out with some energy and stroked two base hits off Alba-Golden starter Megan Wallace in the first. A base-running error allowed the Lady Panthers to double a runner off the base paths, keeping the Lady Lions scoreless.

Lennon led off the bottom half with a stand-up double. Two walks loaded the bases for Wilmut. She drilled a ball to deep left-center which fell just beyond the “A” in Alba.

The Lady Panthers added three runs in the inning. An RBI-double by Erin Langston brought home Kayleigh Logan, and a Saltillo outfield error gifted the home side two runs.

The Lady Panthers doubled another Lady Lion off base after a catch in the second. In the bottom half, Alba-Golden continued to produce. Langston and Kalli Trimble had RBI-producing base hits. With one away, Lennon stroked a line-drive to left center which got out of the ballpark quickly.

The lopsided scoreline allowed playing time for the whole team. To start the third inning, the Lady Panthers fielded Hailey Crutchfield at first, Piper Hallman at second, Hannah Shackleford at shortstop, Kirsty Jackson-Colgrove at third, Landrie Boyd in left, Lanie Wright in center and Seciley Wowicki in right. Wallace remained on the mound and Bailee Bishop continued behind the plate.

Bishop made a nice play on a pop-up halfway back to the screen for the first out of the third inning.

Alba-Golden added two runs in the third with consecutive bases-on-balls.

Behind, 16-0, the Saltillo Lady Lions opened the fourth inning by cracking a first-pitch double up the middle. The baserunner scored on a drive to the right-centerfield gap on the next pitch.

The next three hitters were dispatched to secure a 16-1 win.

Tuesday’s match-up against Rivercrest made for a better gauge of the Lady Panthers playoff chances.
