A-G Lady Panthers split matches with district foes
Small school volleyball fortunes can be hard to judge. Last week provides an excellent example of this up US 69 at Alba-Golden.
On Tuesday, the Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy came into town. The Lady Panthers dispatched the young program’s team in a straight-set match win, 25-7, 25-7, 25-4. It was professionally done in a match which was not truly competitive. It was also a district win.
On Friday, the Lady Trojans of Cumby came in for the early varsity match. They recorded a straight-set win over the Lady Panthers, 25-14, 25-9, 25-22.
It was tough to find any consistency in the first two sets for the Lady Panthers. They were beset by service problems in the first set and relinquished control of the second set to the Lady Trojans.
The Lady Panthers found their offense in the third set. Kaylee Anglin (three kills), Cacie Lennon (two kills, an ace, a drop and a block), Kalli Trimble (a kill) and two closing aces by Erin Langston reminded the team what they were capable of doing.
The third set was tied six times. Alba-Golden had built a four point lead, but Cumby never wavered from their attacking style of play. They used two drop shots and a rafter-assist to overtake the Lady Panthers.
After hosting Como-Pickton earlier this week, the Lady Panthers are away at North Hopkins on Friday and home against Quinlan-Boles next Tuesday.
