The business is constructing a wooden deck in front of the sidewalk that is on the city’s street right-of-way. It is on the same level as the sidewalk.
The council also heard a presentation from Stephanie Kirkpatrick, who owns a business a few doors down from The Mining Post.
The Pea Picker had been the subject of complaints about items being left on the sidewalk.
Council members thanked Kirkpatrick for getting that issue resolved.
The council officially approved the order for the May 7 city council election, which will have three positions.
They also heard a presentation from Wood County Crime Stoppers about placing signs in city neighborhoods and also on the city’s new electronic billboard on Hwy. 69.
The Wood County Economic Development Commission and East Texas Council of Governments were represented concerning plans to expand broadband service into rural areas.
The council voted 3-2 to support the project, with no financial commitment.
